new comers to yoga

As I am writing  this  I have a visitor sitting on the top of my page .
our budgie,  his name is faith.  we brought him in  at the tender age  of nine days old, because he had been rejected by his mum  , for one simple reason  he was the runt of the clutch and she simply couldn't  cope with one more. all these years later faith is still a delight and a real character .
anyhow  I have  digressed .
people who are new comers  to yoga  then this post  is for you .
When  you decide  to start yoga for the first time, either at home , or go to yoga classes,  this is what you should do .
Always  consult your  Dr  before  you start any form  of  exercise  once your Dr has agreed to you doing yoga  as your choice of exercise .
This is a must if you are going to a yoga class . you need  to tell your yoga instructor  of any health problems you  have, and they will help you accordingly .That's  what yoga instructors are  there for , yoga instructors  don't bite they are very approachable .
if you decide  to do  yoga at home this what you will need to do ,
choose a yoga DVD, that starts you off at the beginners level ,then intermediate  level .
this is what I have done . and I find it brilliant , there are  also  tons  of yoga books  that will teach you  from beginners to advanced , yoga is for all ages and there are yoga books to suit any age .
we now have this covered. this is what you will need , if you are going to a yoga class , or doing yoga at home  .
first and foremost a Yoga  mat .

loose fitting clothing,  this is for comfort and flexibility .

a towel  or blanket to keep you warm, when you are
in the meditation  stage of your yoga class.

a bottle of water  because in a yoga class  they take frequent breaks
you will  need  your water  , trust me because you do get thirsty.

I recommend you have a hot shower  or bath after  your yoga   workout
and use Radox  shower/ bath gel and a bath sponge, to soothe  those  muscles you have not worked before .
I  can guarantee you will feel great  afterwards and wont be as sore the next day .
I also recommend  you do this  for  at least the first week , when you start yoga for the first time .
Always take yoga at your own pace ,yoga is not a race .
stop when you need to stop .
try yoga twice a week at first  , then try yoga three times a week and so on .
Its  best you  get yourself into a routine with yoga, wether at a  yoga class or at home .
once you start yoga  you will never look back  .
yoga is the greatest gift you can ever give yourself .

{NOTE}  you must never go below your waistline  if you have  blood pressure }

yoga through the silly season

Well I made a pact with myself , that I would continue  yoga throughout Christmas
and new years , instead of stopping . which I normally do round the silly season
to my detriment I might add !
I have decided  even if we have people  staying with us I  will continue with my yoga workout .
and I stuck with it and I'm so glad I did .
normally  I feel obligated  to stop yoga because  I feel its rude , when in reality  its not .
its a necessity for me .
we are having relatives coming to stay with us later in the year, we are so very excited !
and I have told them I will doing my yoga   in the mornings and they are fine with it .
You see  all you have to do is speak up , and  not let  that terrible  ego stop you form  uttering a  word.
I felt quite empowered for speaking out.
its funny how the ego plays its part and gets in the way, at the most unlikely times isn't it ?
in yoga  there is no room for the ego.
yoga  is just peace and serenity . with no ego in play.
be careful  of the ego ,to much of it is a bad thing.
on the other hand, I cant get enough of yoga ,which is a good and beautiful exercise regime,
which will be with you throughout  your lifetime .
yoga  is the greatest gift you can give yourself.

awakening from grief

Because of  this stressful year .
Greif took hold  and I lost interest in  everything , including my appetite,
which  went out the window .
I didn't  realise how much grief had taken hold of me , until  all of a sudden
I got up and got my yoga mat .
it was like  I was on automatic pilot, and  proceeded to  do this wonderful yoga workout .
for the first time in  months .I  took it very easy  as if  I was  starting from scratch .
but  it felt as though  I had never left  it .
I had interruptions mind you ! with the DVD playing up  every 5 mins or so
but I got there eventually.
since then I haven't  ground my teeth or clenched  my jaw. and I feel more relaxed,
than I have in ages . And I was less restless , so I wasn't out of bed every 5 seconds .
I slept ok !!! my  appetite is now back with  a vengeance !!! and I feel fantastic and so refreshed .
I woke up, opened my eyes, and stretched . gee that felt so good.
Isn't it funny  that with  only one yoga workout , all this happens
Amazing isn't  it.

me time

for so long now  I have  not been thinking  of myself,
well it feels like forever anyway.
just getting on with things, its like I have been in a rut. I was  speaking to a lady the other day trying to help her somehow and I told  her  she  has  to have time for herself.
what I  call me time .
she has  been neglecting herself  so much that she is depressed, sound familiar!
then I realised  that  I should take my own advice and have some  me time ; everyone needs a break from the everyday mundane things and problems of life.
the  blackness of the  world today  can be  overwhelming . this  lady made me realise  I am also neglecting myself far to much and that I  need  to nurture myself , and to give myself  more  me time, so that's what I am going to do.
Me time can be anything from having a relaxing  shower or bath with your favourite smellies  to walking on the beach to a walk in the park to putting on your  favourite CD with scented oil  burners  or scented candles  burning  to sitting with a hot drink looking out at the garden, or even working in it.  You see it doesn't have  to cost you anything !!!
My me time is yoga.
you see it gives  me time to breathe, to just be and has its benefits  from a figure second to none  to healthy bones and healthy joints to mind and body.

its not being selfish to have me time, its beneficial  for your overall  health, so you can handle the stresses of everyday life its hard to do at first but  give it a try, anything that calms  you helps you to just breathe, to just be,
is your me time,
your body and soul are crying  out for this.

just stop
be in the
moment.

Dads send off

hi  all, Well my family and I are getting there.
I cant believe  it will be  three months  on the 5th  of June since my dad passed away;
mum  came down to stay with us and brought  Dads ashes with her. we had a beautiful send off for dad doing and eating my dads  favourite things.
firstly we scattered Dads ashes at his favourite  spot,
then at sunset  we scattered  the rest of dads ashes at ours, all the while playing  stranger on the shore by the artist Aka Bilk dads most  played album ever.
it was the most  beautiful sunset we
had ever seen it will  be in our  memories forever;
Then fish and chips and Canadian club was had by all we toasted dad and said our goodbyes, Dad would have loved that.
after our  little  ceremony  we had for dad it has made it easier to  let go, before it felt as if we were in limbo and it felt as if we were stuck in time.
After not having a proper funeral.
now we can get  back into our life's  journey.
